Mr. Wecker joined the San Francisco law firm of Furth, Fahrner & Mason in 1978, where he became a partner in 1985. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants in antitrust, intellectual property and other trade regulation litigation. He specialized in representing plaintiffs in antitrust matters, including a number of class actions. Among his significant cases were the Federal Trade Commission's effort to find breakfast cereal manufacturers in violation of the FTC Act for having a shared monopoly, and a suit by the owner of the New England Patriots charging the National Football League with monopolization. Mr. Wecker also represented Sprint in a suit against AT&T charging monopolization of the long distance telephone service market, which ended in a substantial settlement. He represented classes of plaintiffs in actions against cement manufacturers, fish processors and importers, a regional Bell telephone company, and health maintenance organizations. Mr. Wecker also has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in trademark and trade secret litigation, including IBM's case against National Semiconductor and Hitachi Corporation, as well as numerous trademark matters for the Kellogg Company and Kendall-Jackson Winery.
His additional trial experience includes participation in two trials against the National Football League, one of which resulted in a $114 million dollar verdict. Another trial, in 2001, concerned the monopolization of a natural gas processing market in Texas which resulted in two highly favorable settlements during the course of the trial. Other notable cases include a Ninth Circuit appeal by the City of Portland to open cable operators' Internet access lines to other Internet service providers.
Mr. Wecker joined what is now Hosie Rice LLP in 2001. He participated in the successful representation of Burst.com in its patent, trade secret and antitrust action against Microsoft Corp. He also has represented other software companies in patent, trade secret and breach of non-disclosure agreements litigation.
