In 1985, Ms. Rice joined the San Francisco law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, where she became a partner in 1991. She joined Hosie Rice LLP in 2003.
Ms. Rice specializes in complex litigation, class actions, intellectual property and Internet-related legal matters. Her litigation practice primarily addresses disputes involving the interface of science, technology, and the law. Highlights of her practice include receiving a jury verdict for Wang Computers, Inc. in a case brought by a class of resellers alleging tying and monopolization claims. Her court experience includes over 75 weeks of jury trial.
Ms. Rice has been a member of the national trial team for Baxter Healthcare Corporation in the breast implant litigation, and has managed a national experts team for American Home Products. She represented Fibreboard Corporation and Pittsburgh Corning Corporation in two of the largest class action suits in the country. In a pro bono case, Ms. Rice represented a child who was severely brain damaged as a result of strangulation in a crib and received a $38 million structured settlement during trial.
Ms. Rice has been a faculty member for trial advocacy programs at Stanford, Harvard and the University of San Francisco law schools, as well as a speaker for California Continuing Education of the Bar courses in Trial Skills, Deposition Skills, and Trial Advocacy.
